“The Aviator”

…  about the intense, interesting an little known life of Howard Hughes. A must see movie.

As conspiracy and evil were about to triumph, true passion and determination can make a person get over anything and rise above everything –  even physical disabilities and phobias, in order to fight for the dream, fight for the possibility to be there the next day, fight for justice. It is a movie about what true passion can accomplish. It is truly inspiring to see such strength in a person who just seconds before that had been portrayed as so weak, so vulnerable, so… naked.

The Movie “12 Years a Slave”

It is sad, but it is reality. And it is what it is.

Never give up, always do your best, help others and believe.

Some memorable quotes : ( more here)

“What difference is there in the color of the soul?”
― Solomon Northup12 Years A Slave

“Credit leads a man into temptation. Cash down is the only thing that will deliver him from evil.”

― Solomon NorthupTwelve Years a Slave

“Eliza, stop crying, You let sorrow take over you; you will drown in it”
― Solomon NorthupTwelve Years a Slave

“The Wolf of Wall-Steet”

Not really the average Wall Street movie, but close to it. A lot of nudity and bad talk, however, there was also a lot of motivation and dedication involved. And just like everyone says, Leo was great.

I do have to admit that in the middle of the movie, i thought that the ending would be different. I thought that as he had put all his money on his wife’s aunt name, she and his wife would then run away with everything… And all would have been a set-up, starting with the marriage and ending with the supposed inquiry by the FBI…  But no, i guess this was more or less the average Wall street movie.

“Act as if! Act as if you’re a wealthy man, rich already, and then you’ll surely become rich. Act as if you have unmatched confidence and then people will surely have confidence in you. Act as if you have unmatched experience and then people will follow your advice. And act as if you are already a tremendous success, and as sure as I stand here today – you will become successful.”

― Jordan BelfortThe Wolf of Wall Street

….  and, of course, my favorite scene :

Forrest Gump

“I don’t know if we each have a destiny, or if we’re all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze …  But i think it’s both. ”

There are some things we can influence –  we choose our carreer, we study, we get a job, we strive to be the best –  but there are also things that are out of our reach. As the saying goes “Give me the courage to change the things I can, strength to accept the things I can’t and the wisdom to know the difference

So when i wish someone health and happiness –  for Christmas and New Year’s Eve, for example –  i also wish them luck.

And there is another thing that this movie teaches us –  Forrest Gump was a good honest person, all he did was follow instructions, orders, he kept his promises and was true to his friends and family. He was correct and he worked hard.

Isn’t that the perfect recipe for success ?

Movies (8)

The Ghost Writer

The typical drama with the bad guys and the good guys and the mystery of someone’s death. And politics. But it adds a bit more to the table, as for example, i do not understand much of politics, but after this movie i kinda got the main idea. Behind a strong man, there is always a strong woman :)   9/10

The Man From Earth

Yes, they are all in a room and all they do for the entire movie is talk. But what they talk about is very intriguing. Subtitles are a must, and so is general knowledge :)  The movie really does show some interesting ideas, some of them even bold.  9/10

Kill the Irishman

It is based on a true story, but…  it has no beginning and no end. It describes a life, but with highlight on a specific aspect of the life, while the other elements are ignored, fact that at some level, causes gaps in the story. The movie is meaningful, it shows how legends arise. It is a bit boring though.  6/10.

The Moon

In the most harsh conditions, it’s love and hope that keeps us going.

The first time, i closed the player at about 20 min, which is right where things start to get interesting. It is not a comedy, not much is going on, only a handful of actors –  but c’mon, what do you expect, it’s the moon.

The trailer is kinda explicit and may ruin the whole surprise element, but here it is anyway.

Law Abiding Citizen

A man’s struggle for justice.  The line between right and wrong becomes kinda blurry at some point.

Yes, the classical “the end of the world is near and only Nicholas Cage knows about it “. The movie is quite nice though.

Movies (7)

Magic, aliens and zombies.

Harry Potter ( 1-4)

I really enjoyed the first one, but as the movie progresses and Harry grows up, there’s a lot more envy, greed and evil. And fighting. And i thought it was a story about the good heart of a young magician.

Stake Land

If you’re into zombies and stuff like that.

The day the Earth Stood Still

Keanu Reeves. Humanoid Aliens. The end is near. Lots of special Effects.

The another earth

The idea is really nice. But the movie turned out to be about something completely different.

Described in a kinda weird way, it’s all about what we are and what choices we make, how we wish we could undo some things and cannot. Deep, sad, mostly black and white.

Movies (6)

Yes, it is yet another movie about aliens. Or ok, about one particularly witty alien. It is not a typical man versus alien movie –  Paul is actually sweet. Although there are some moments in the movie when you might question why you are watching it, it’s good for an evening when you just wanna relax, wanna fall asleep with something playing in the background,  when you are doing other things at the same time, or when you know you will be interrupted several times…

Frankie and Alice

It’s just different. Surprising.

How to train your dragon

I really like animated films :)  And this one is really optimistic and different from pixar.

The next three days

A bit of action, a bit of drama, a bit of reality. Motivational.

Beer and friends are a must when watching this :)  It is definitely a movie to make fun of :DDD . Although the idea of the movie is a bit scary ( especially if you are a guy), it is not that badly made. Not good, but not bad either.   6/10.

Movies (5)

Light, happy and sometimes with a punch line.

Stranger than Fiction

It’s a witty comedy, with a deep meaning. Not so many of those going around.

Routine is good.  Brushing your teeth regularly, 32 times, to be more exact, is good too :)  Life is all about what you make of it. And even if things are already written down for you, sometimes, one can change that.

Just Go With It

A classical love story, but with a bit more comedy to it. We all need some awwwwh in our lives every now and then….

Normally i do not like the movies starring Adam Sandler, but this comedy is really nice. No silly jokes, a bit of a ridiculous situation though, but hey,  life too can be a bit absurd sometimes.

Life as we know it

My kind of comedy :) Easy breezy guy meets girl love story.  Real enough, with a happy ending. Food for soul, if you’re a girl :)

My girlfriend’s boyfriend

Only watched the first 20 min, got too bored and gave up.

Friends with Benefits

Another love story to make girls sigh. Good quality and reduced cheesy moments. Funny, good to watch.

The Ugly Truth

Girls looove romance. And happy endings.

Another romantic comedy for an evening with a glass of ( for me, preferably white ) wine.

Love actually

The title says it all.  When life seems all gloomy and sad, this movie is optimistic and makes you feel all warm and comfortable …  Plus to that, it’s with Hugh Grant :DDD

Original Sin

Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie are getting it on :)

Really ?

Movies (4)

Life is not easy breezy, and neither are these movies.
The Machinist

It is dark and hard to understand. It is not pretty, and yet, there is something that keeps you watching it. And at the end, there it is. The truth. 9/10.

Crash ( 2004)

Easy breezy ?  No. Meaningful?  Yes. Dark ? A bit.  It took a while to understand what the movie was about, but it eventually becomes clear… it is about society and stereotypes. It is about power and abuse. It is real. Maybe that’s why it is so dark.  7/10.
